Red Carpet Treatment!

RED CARPET TREATMENT!

Fancy dining a la carte?
At a cafe called 'Mousie Menu'?
You might dine on trap-cheese tart,
But, I fear that when you
Had entered in the tiny hole
And gorged yourself on food,
You might have trouble ......bless my soul...
I don't want to be rude.....
But you admit you're prone to greed;
You admit to liking cheese.....
Mouse-waiters' bring forth food at speed
We admire their expertise!
You may grunt and you may grumble,
No longer skinny as a pole!
Rotund tum will churn and rumble
When you're stuck there in the hole!

A brand new Royal carriage was sent off to the Queen,

In a special jumbo jet all of its own.

A piece of future history from the far side of the world;
Something quite as regal as a throne!
It was meant as a birthday present. It will be a little late,

As the Queen was eighty quite some time ago,

But the work involved has been intense, that's very plain to see,

And, also, it has been on public show.
Our attitude to Monarchy is odd to say the least;
A Republic is in favour, it's quite clear.
There are many who resent the Royal Family as a whole,
And the movement seems to grow year after year.

Yet the Queen herself is still revered, and the ties with 'the Old Dart',

And the Britishness of things still lingers on.

But expect great changes when, in time, another Monarch reigns

And the way of life of 'colonies' moves on.

Maybe this is a 'last hurrah' in Australian history;

This symbol of another day and age.

Maybe this golden carriage will be recalled one day

As a footnote at the bottom of the page.

'our' gales have reached Newcastle - really? They were horrendous here over night and seem set to continue all day. I live close to the coast so i think today will be a stay-at-home day.

Rug up!

Your mousie poem is priceless! Great entertainment with a cute image to match! And the idea of a once revered golden royal carriage becoming a footnote is quite a sobering but possible thought!

I would think that any restaurant would encourage their patrons to consume. Cheese and all. Unlike the charming rodents, we humans know when to say 'when' - lest we get stuck in the hole too...

Oz still has the Union Jack in its flag, and I wouldn't expect that to change (although Canada did change its flag). In America people like all things British but the kinship never really was as it has been in the rest of the Commonwealth. the carriage is a true work of art that will endure, classic craftsmanship that may wither elsewhere. But not here, a wonderful gift that will stand the test of time...

I don't use cheese, because they work just once on my snap machine. ( I call it machine.) But I use Made in Australia bait, and it works like charm. The moment one visit me, off to the hard ware shop, please can I hvae those blue Made in Australia bait.

I am no royalist, but along with 90% of the women in new Zealand, we were late for work the day after Princess Dana got married.LOL
